Fraternal Order of Utopia

Sixty Years of Service, Sacrifice, and Excellence

Founded 60 years ago, in 1964, the Fraternal Order of Utopia has steadily evolved into what it is today. The Utopians who have joined the Utopia brotherhood over the past six decades have conducted themselves in a way that upholds the ideals set by Utopia’s founding fathers and in the traditions that generations of Utopians have continued to follow.

Service Beyond Self

For sixty years, we Utopians have pledged ourselves to a life of service. It's a vow that transcends personal gain. Utopians have remained committed and dedicated to fulfilling their vow of SERVICE to family, to community and country, to the Fraternity and their brothers and to God.

We’ve held the torch high in various branches of government, in the hallowed halls of the Supreme Court, in the corridors of Malacañang, in the seats of Congress, in law schools, in business, and in professional and private organizations.

Among our ranks, we count two Supreme Court Chief Justices (Renato C. Corona and Alexander G. Gesmundo) and four Supreme Court Associate Justices, one Court of Appeals Presiding Justice (Andres B. Reyes, Jr.), and twelve Court of Appeals Associate Justices. We also have one Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice (Norberto Y. Geraldez) and four Sandiganbayan Associate Justices, a Court of Tax Appeals Associate Justice, and several judges of the Regional Trial Courts, Metropolitan Trial Courts, Municipal Trial Courts, and Municipal Circuit Trial Courts. Several Utopians have also served as Provincial and City Prosecutors.

Utopia prides itself on having five Department Secretaries who have served in the Cabinet: Executive Secretary Paquito N. Ochoa, Department of Budget and Management Secretary Guillermo N. Carague, Department of Tourism Secretary Vicente J. Carlos, Department of Transportation Secretary Pantaleon D. Alvarez, and Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin C. Abalos, Jr. We also have several Department Undersecretaries and Bureau and Agency Heads. Three Utopians have been appointed as Chairmen of the Commission on Audit (Guillermo N. Carague, Reynaldo A. Villar, and Gamaliel A. Cordoba).

Utopia is honored to have had a Speaker of the House of Representatives (Pantaleon D. Alvarez), Deputy Speakers, and several members of the House of Representatives.

We count among our ranks several local government unit executives and officials: Governors, Vice Governors, Provincial Board Members, Mayors, Vice Mayors, and Councilors. Two Utopians served as Presidents of the Philippine Stock Exchange (Eduardo delos Angeles and Francis Ed. Lim).

Two Utopians were elected as Presidents of the prestigious Management Association of the Philippines (Perry L. Pe and Francis Ed. Lim). Utopian Perry L. Pe also served as President of the Philippine Association of Law Schools and as President of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association. Utopian Francis Ed. Lim also served as President of the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines.

The Path of Sacrifice

But service is not the only hallmark of a Utopian. Sacrifice defines us. It is our willingness to place others' welfare above our own desires.

This spirit is embodied by Utopians who have become Catholic priests, pastors, and leaders of various religious and civic organizations. We have knelt in service, not just to our fraternity, but to a higher calling.

3 Utopians have been ordained as Catholic priests serving religious organizations, parishes and communities (Fr. Isagani Nestor Isagani P. Aviñante, Fr. Joyalito F. Tajonera and Fr. Cyril Vincent S. Noel). Some Utopians have also served as Pastors of different religious sects.

A Utopian has served as Chairman of Couples for Christ (Jose T. Tale). Another Utopian has served as the Centennial Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of the Philippines (Santiago T. Gabionza, Jr.).

Two Utopians, Evelio Javier and Judge Voltaire Rosales, were awarded the Lux In Domino award, the highest honor given to alumni by Ateneo de Manila University.

Countless brothers have given their time, effort, heart, and lives in dedicated service to the community and to the Filipino people.

Sixty-five Utopians have been elected to serve as President of the Fraternity.

Looking Back, Moving Forward

As Utopia celebrates its 60th anniversary and 5th National Convention, we reflect on the journey. We remember the blessings, the achievements, and the countless lives touched by Utopians. But more importantly, we look forward. We are resolute in our commitment to our founding principles. To be our fathers' pride and our mothers' dream. To be friends to all heroic souls. To face life’s storms with courage. To uphold justice and share our blessings, paying forward the kindness we've received.

Utopia is not just a fraternity. It is not just a brotherhood. It is a way of life. A life dedicated to service, sacrifice, and excellence. And in this commitment, we find our true identity.

This is Utopia. Sixty years and counting. A legacy, a promise, a way of life.

- Antonio Bernardo (Utopia 1985, Rambo)
